The Lake Norman Excursion cycling event has a long tradition among North Carolina cyclists. Started by Dwight Calloway in the mid 1980s, the ride ran from Denver, NC along the beautiful shores of Lake Norman. The ride was discontinued in the early 90s when Calloway retired.
The Lake Norman Excursion was re-created in 2007 and has become a favorite cycling event drawing nearly 1000 participants for the last several years. The ride and run are hosted by the Lowe's Corporation, starting and ending on their Mooresville Corporate campus. A 5K Run / Walk option has been added and the Lake Norman Excursion serves as the 2nd event in the Jimmie Johnson Foundation Wellness Challenge.
5K Run / Walk & 10, 38, 63 and 100-mile cycling options. The run course and 10 mile bike ride are safe and scenic closed loops inside the Lowe's Corporate campus The longer rides take you through the scenic countrysides of Iredell, Rowan and Catawba counties.
The 100 mile event is a chip timed event to record your ride time but the cycling event is not a race.
The Jimmie Johnson Foundation is proud to announce that event proceeds from the Lake Norman Excursion & 5K will support the American Red Cross and current Jimmie Johnson Foundation programs.
